I’m a private pilot, licensed to fly single-engine aircraft. So, how does that relate to live production?
Everything about flying an airplane is highly methodical. Pilots use checklists and implement routines every step of the way to guarantee that nothing goes overlooked. This is the same approach I've always taken with production management.
Well before becoming a pilot, I began using checklists to ensure everything received the attention it deserved. I created spreadsheets to track communication and log all the information I received. And because time is too precious to waste, I implemented routines for efficiency.
I've now toured for over fifteen years, traveled to all fifty of the United States and more than thirty-five countries. I’ve worked in legendary venues like Madison Square Garden, coordinated production for television performances worldwide, and entertained troops aboard an aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf.
I’ve found myself in many difficult situations throughout my career. I’ve made mistakes and learned hard lessons. And I continue to refine my approach for better performance and more efficient work to benefit myself and the people I work with.
Because there is no how-to manual for the live production industry, I founded The Efficient Hustle as a way to share what I've learned.
